In efforts to help Harvey- affected areas homes to be cleaned, Mayor Steve Adler asked the citizens of Austin to donate cleaning supplies on September 11 – the National Day of Service and Remembrance – to help those whose homes were flooded by Hurricane Harvey. At the Austin Convention Center where Keller Williams, the Austin-born, Austin-based real estate company was to hold its annual convention, instead has become a mega-relief effort. Every day, thousands of Keller Williams agents will be staging from the convention center, delivering cleaning supplies to affected communities, and helping people clean up their damaged homes.
“People are beginning to return to homes and finding a cleanup job on an unimaginable scale. What people need now more than anything is cleaning supplies delivered to the convention center. I can’t think of a better way for Austin to observe the National Day of Service on 9/11 than helping these people who have lost so much,” said Mayor Adler. “We answered the call to help them as they sought shelter in Austin. Now that many are returning home, they need our help once again.”
The Mayor asked the for community to donate new cleaning supplies. The items needed include: multipurpose cleaner; chlorine bleach; Disinfectant spray; disinfectant wipes; buckets; plastic/latex gloves; leather or heavy duty work gloves; heavy duty garbage bags; scrub brushes; sponges; N95 respirator mask and dust masks; brooms; mops; dust pans and paper towels.
Mayor Adler and Keller Williams is asking people to deliver the cleaning supplies to the Austin Convention Center, Exhibit Hall 3 (Trinity and 2nd Streets) through Thursday, September 14th (from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.).
“To put others ahead of ourselves is the greatest thing any of us can do,” Keller Williams Co-founder and Chairman Gary Keller said. “Thanks to the leadership and vision of Mayor Adler, the energy and commitment of our agents, and the compassion and generosity of Austin residents, we’re bringing help and hope to people in need.”
